HWY 57
(2014) trumpet, cello, percussion, and piano
choreography by Blake Nellis In the spring of 2014 I composed music for Blake Nellis' original dance work, HWY 57. This production is inspired by Edgar Lee Masters' Spoon River Anthology, a collection of fictional epitaphs that reveal a complex town, history, and people. Blake describes the work as "a trip, so to speak, exploring things we're afraid of: betrayal, loneliness, death and speeding tickets." During the creation process, it was a pleasure to work with the Luther College students that performed the music. The dancers are also all Luther students and piece was produced by the Luther College Theater and Dance Department. Additional music was composed by Jon Ailabouni and Justin Nellis. see the score of one movement |
